The consequences of an accident or a sudden health problem can be extremely stressful for both patients as well as their loved ones. The emotional stress can be overwhelming, and health professionals may not be aware of its magnitude. After a patient has been discharged from the hospital and is deemed “out of need,” the assumption is that their treatment has been completed.
